Sydney Albion double-decker No 2004

Albert

April 1968 -"Buses for sale" - declared the Sydney Morning Herald

The NSW Dept. of Government Transport had a dozen buses to dispose of; AECs, Leylands and two Albions. No mention was made that one of the Albions had a dent in the rear and a maximum speed of 32 mph, only that it would be the cheapest to buy. The "suggested price" was a thousand dollars; the first offer was two hundred; then eight hundred was suggested; four hundred was offered . . and paid.

No 2004 had been operating the 393 Circular Quay to La Perouse service but with Sydney's Albions already being withdrawn when a car drove into the back of 2004 its La Perouse days were finally over.

Albert was collected from the Chullora bus works on Wednesday 15th May 1968 on the morning after a blustering "southerly buster", the weather still being windy and wet for the drive to the North Shore. Thus it was learned that Sydney buses are far from weather-proof!
